The Hero’s Journey

Joseph Campbell, an American mythologist, spent his life analyzing the great stories of mankind, of ancient legends, myths, fairy tales and religions. A certain pattern is to be found in all narratives, no matter what time or period…

a person sets out on a journey, after being told by an inner whispering voice that he was chosen for something higher, to pursue a calling. To radically change something about his life’s situation. There are many obstacles on his path. He is laughed at, ashamed and sometimes even persecuted. And that, very often, from his own tribe and people. He’s become an outcast. The black sheep of the family. He’s experiencing many contradictions and defeats and suffers massively from self-despair and wonders why this burden has been placed upon him. After all, he is nobody special. But he continues his path, fights for his beliefs and finally defeats evil. He is redeemed and experiences a newly gained freedom. He becomes a role model, mentor and hero for many more after him.

According to Campbell, every human life is kind of a hero’s journey. We don’t have to bend ourselves and try to change the world or even save it. It is totally sufficient that we look for our own calling, find it and go down that path and accept everything that comes to finally arrive at our destination. And with the newly arisen joy that we have in us, we contract this joy unto other people around us and help, influence and motivate them to also find their calling, their great passion or dream and follow it.

My name is Mirko “Miki” Mrksic and I will solve your problem!

Escaping the Rat Race

I know exactly what it feels like to grow up without a calling. The feeling of doing something meaningless. I was firmly entrenched into certain patterns in life that were engraved into me from childhood on. A life in the hamster wheel that just spins and spins without purpose and meaning. I looked for distractions from reality in consumerism and worldly amusements.

Until an inner voice whispered to me that I have been chosen for something higher.

I have always been passionate about sports. From martial arts to endurance sports. With CrossFit, I felt right at home. This opened the doors for me to Strongman and Powerlifting training. It gave me a sense of discipline that I have never had before. New horizons and interests have opened.
The voice told me to go out and help other people to become the best, healthiest and strongest version they can become.

But there was another voice.

This voice (which Napoleon Hill called “the devil”) told me I wasn’t good enough to help others. It told me that people around me would make fun of me. I know that my ideas and views are not “mainstream”, so I would certainly make a fool of myself. I told this voice that I am not satisfied with the way my life has gone. I have a steady job and make good money, but there is this emptiness that just cannot be filled with any money. I have this need for wanting to learn and try new things and help other people.
This voice was further affirmed by people around me, friends, acquaintances
and family. After all, I have a “safe” job and I should be happy and I should stop with these crazy ideas.

What did I do? Nothing. I let it go. I left my ideas, my plans, my passion behind. And my life went on with its usual course. Again, I searched for distractions in material and worldly pleasures. I learned a new vocation (my second one) with the illusion of climbing up the career ladder. Because that’s what it comes down to in life, right?

But the entire time this emptiness continued.

Why did this emptiness exist? Because everything in my life was fake. Fake friends. Fake relationships. Fake interests. Fake hopes. Fake heroes.

I allowed self-doubt and a negative mindset about myself to overtake my thoughts and determine my reality. My natural sense of being was blocked. My inner warrior was pushed into the corner.

Eventually, after much self-analysis and personal development into the realm of the human psyche and its associated behavioral patterns, I became aware of the fact that there was only one person that was standing in my way and prevented me from building my legacy. And that person was me.

That was the moment when a shift occurred. A shift in my behavior towards

myself and towards others, about my reactions towards external influences and in my mind.

I felt a newfound appreciation for the things and core values that are important to me in life and everything that was fake became meaningless.

The Meaning of Life

Why am I telling you all this? Because I think you can understand, more or less, where I'm coming from and what I'm trying to say. And why do I think that? Because I know that a lot of people at some point face the same challenges.

Many people know intuitively what their destiny is, they know what gives them pleasure, they know what they have a passion for. But the times we live in today, these things play rather a secondary role. Our life’s development is already laid out for us in advance: We will learn a trade or get a degree and then go to work for someone, somewhere and earn just enough money to get by. To work til our long-awaited pension and do a job that brings no fulfillment. Simply because all others are doing it too. As the saying goes: “It is what it is”. We just have to accept that. This is the system that we live in. We consume, buy things we don’t need, look forward to our annual vacation, live only for the weekend and then Monday mornings, so say the statistics, the most heart attacks occur.

It seems like we were told to sit down, be quiet and listen. And this, preferably, without objecting. Instead of following our heart we should rather do something “realistic”. By turning  off our body and mind we have become slaves to other people’s expectations. We hang up our desires and passions and without knowing it we forfeit the power we have over ourselves. And when we have a spark of passion for anything, we overthink everything and paralyze ourselves.

All of these things lead a person deeper and deeper into a downward spiral consisting of increased stress, poor diet, self-doubt, negative self-talk, neurotic body postures, muscular imbalances and depression. We live a life that is not in alignment with our core values. We turn to drugs, alcohol, porn, videogames and other excessive pleasures to numb the pain that is inside us. We dwell in relationships with other people, where there is no harmony and no partnership, because we are afraid to take the step to start all over again on our own.

These are all signs that you are at the starting phase of your personal hero’s journey. It is clear to you that a radical change must come. A voice has whispered something to you. Other people don’t need to hear it or understand it. This voice speaks only for you.

And you are about to make the decision to go on a new, unknown path, to build your legacy.

But there is one thing.

You need to prepare for your journey. Just jumping in without having a plan can lead to even bigger problems. You may also not necessarily know where your path will take you. If you don’t know where you are going, the path can lead you anywhere. And not every path is optimal.

And that’s why I’m here.

If you want to find out more about my coaching, keep reading…

The Path to your Goal

As I mentioned before, I see myself as your personal problem-solver. I am not a nutritionist, not a physiotherapist, not a medical doctor and not a clinical psychologist, so I do not claim that I can heal you.

But, what I can do as a holistic lifestyle and exercise coach is to help you. Help you become the best, strongest and healthiest version of yourself that you can become.

You can only achieve perfect health, satisfaction and happiness when all essential and crucial factors are in harmony with each other.

90% of all diseases in the modern western world today are due to a poor diet and poor lifestyle. We do not eat properly, we do not sleep and rest enough and we are exposed to far too much stress. We move too little, not at all or incorrectly. And the biggest problem of all: we are dissatisfied with ourselves, with the path we have taken. We are moving in circles. The daily hamster wheel has made us forget what our true destiny is. We are probably even so entrapped in it that we don’t even know what our dreams and goals and what our purpose in life is. We maybe know what our core values are, but we do not live by them. It is more important to us that we present an image of ourselves to the outside world that gives the appearance of how great life is.

It may seem hard to admit that all these things hold true to one’s life. But the solution herefore is much easier than you think: You need a clear structure and a clear path to follow, in alignment with your core values and beliefs. This will ultimately lead to a happier and more fulfilling life.

And that’s what I’m here for. Together we will set up your goals, build up a structural process, implement the plan and then move in that direction step by step.

My coaching process is about identifying your goal, dream or passion and what makes you happy and whether your current lifestyle supports these fundamental values and beliefs.

Through in-depth personal conversations, based on a number of questionnaires and physical-functional assessments I will get a clear picture of you and your current situation. Then I use  the results to build a structural program that can solve your problems and lead you to your goal.

My coaching is very intensive and deep. I may ask questions here and there that may be uncomfortable for you and I will always be very honest and direct. Surely, there are people who simply do not like this kind of approach because they have troubles with being confronted with reality. They have created their own little world where everything is colorful, shiny and beautiful. They live according to the rules of externally and self-imposed dogmas that prevent them from thinking freely for themselves. They lie to themselves. This is where it stops! We must get away from this snowflake-thinking that we always have to be nice, out of fear for not hurting anyone’s feelings. For my coaching you need courage. The courage to make a change and approach this process with discipline and focus.

That’s why I’m being honest here right now when I say this coaching is not for everyone. I am convinced, that many are not ready to break out of the chains of the societal and mental rat race and live their life according to their rules.

But if you are ready, then I can say: My coaching has the potential to change your life.

You do not own the power over yourself?
Now it's time to take it back!
Define your journey.
Develop your process. Build your legacy.
And become the master of your life.
